Ineos announces a second all-terrain presented as a “little Grenadier”, which will be 100% electric. It will be based on a new architecture and will be produced in France, like the great fighter expected for July 2022. Discover the first details.
Ineos has said it over and over again: the Grenadier all-terrain as it was presented will not be offered in all-electric. Too much weight, not enough range to venture far, and not enough charging infrastructure if the battery runs out in the middle of nowhere. An electrified version is well under development, but with a hydrogen fuel cell. In the meantime, 100% thermal gasoline and diesel will be offered. But the young German-British manufacturer announces today a second off-road to expand its offer, and this one will be “zero emissions”.
Field electricity
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, CEO of chemicals group Ineos, parent company of Ineos Automotive, said in a video diary of the development of the Grenadier: ” I think the Grenadier is perfect for a hydrogen engine. But what we are also preparing at the moment is a smaller version of the Grenadier which will be electric. (…) The future will clearly be electric in urban areas but also in the countryside; if you are a farmer you can have an electric car that can drive on trails etc. “.
This more compact 4×4 will therefore position itself as an authentic adventurer, like the Grenadier. It will be based on a new platform and will probably allow Ineos to drastically reduce CO emissions2 averages of its vehicles to avoid heavy fines on a European scale.

The small electric 4×4 will be produced in France
The Grenadier is due to go into production in July 2022 in the former Smart factory in Hambach, Moselle, bought from the Mercedes group by Ineos. It will first be available in two- and five-seater utility vehicles as well as in a “touring” version, before a pick-up version in 2023. Its electric “little brother” will also be produced at the French site. No release date has been announced. The plant has an annual production capacity of 60,000 vehicles.
