A Smart Fortwo that belonged to President Valéry Giscard d’Estaing has just been bought by MP Yannick Favennec. With full equipment, excellent condition and documented maintenance, the city car was priced at nearly € 10,000.
Valéry Giscard d’Estaing was rather fond of cars. The former President of the Republic, who died in December 2020, had a certain fondness for Peugeot sedans, but his official Citroën DS and CXs have also become famous. Nevertheless the last car of the former head of state and his wife was a Smart Fortwo and Yannick Favennec, deputy (UDI) of Mayenne who claims loud and clear his political affiliation with Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, has just acquired it with his wife.
The city car of Giscard d’Estaing
The Giscard d’Estaing couple bought their new Fortwo in 2002 from the Como dealership located in the 16e district of Paris. It is a gray model with blue upholstery equipped with a three-cylinder 599 cc turbo with 55 hp associated with a sequential six-speed gearbox.
Ordered in the top-of-the-range Xclusive configuration, the car is equipped with air conditioning, a panoramic roof and 15-inch alloy wheels in particular. From the height of his 1.89 m it is possible that the former President felt a little cramped aboard the mini-city car he intended for Parisian use. In excellent condition and with its maintenance history, the car has only traveled approximately 40,000 km.
A 2002 Smart priced at almost € 10,000
This Fortwo ex-Giscard d’Estaing was offered for sale by Vintage Légende, specialist in vintage vehicles and youngtimers installed in Garches, in Hauts-de-Seine (92). It was posted € 9,900, or approximately double the sum generally requested for an equivalent copy. But as the saying goes: when you love, you don’t count. “ For us, Giscardiens, it is a pride to keep part of his memory close to us », Declared Yannick Favennec after its acquisition.
