School doctors, general practitioners or pediatricians, can prescribe free consultations with a psychologist for adolescents in 8 departments.
Adolescents aged 11 to 21 in psychological distress will be able to benefit from free consultations with a liberal psychologist. a decree published in the Official Journal on May 7 specifies the terms and conditions of this experiment which should last 4 years.
This device, included in the social security financing law for 2017, allows general practitioners, pediatricians or school doctors to prescribe 12 consultations with a psychologist for adolescents. This package will be covered 100% by Social Security. “Young people with psychiatric disorders or signs of a suicidal crisis are excluded from the experiment and referred to specialized care”, specifies the text.
The decree specifies that young people and those with parental authority must give their consent. When they come of age, adolescents included in this system will be able to ask to leave or change psychologist.
8 volunteer departments
Liberal psychologists participating in this experiment will have to adhere to a charter. The coordination of this device is attributed to the adolescent centers. The latter will notably organize awareness-raising and training sessions for doctors and psychologists adhering to the charter.
In Ile-de-France, the experiment will be carried out in Trappes and Les Mureaux (Yvelines), in Garges-lès-Gonesse, Sarcelles, Goussainville and Villiers-le-Bel (Val d’Oise), specifies a decree also published this Sunday. The departments of Loire-Atlantique, Maine-et-Loire, Meuse, Vosges, Ardennes and Haut-Rhin will also participate.
A research team will also be mobilized to assess the interest and effectiveness of the experiment. The researchers will also assess the acceptability of the device, as well as the coordination of the young person’s path in order to formulate recommendations on the methods of generalization throughout France.
