Faced with the increase in psychological disorders, mental health has become one of the government’s primary concerns. Indeed, in recent years, more and more French people are consulting psychologists. In 2022, the system, called My Psy Support, was launched. As a reminder, the latter allows all people over the age of 3 (children, adolescents and adults) experiencing mental suffering of mild to moderate intensity to benefit from psychological support sessions covered by Health Insurance.
Psychology: 12 free support sessions per year
As of June 15, 2024, the system has evolved to facilitate the patient care pathway. Since this date, “consulting a doctor before making an appointment with an approved psychologist is no longer an obligation. The patient can directly access an approved psychologist listed in the dedicated directory. However, it remains entirely possible to consult beforehand. a doctor to take stock with him.”
A new feature has recently been added to the system: the number of sessions has been increased. According to Health Insuranceall French people can consult a psychologist free of charge every month. In agreement with the specialist, a maximum of 12 sessions in total can be reimbursed per calendar year and per person, compared to 8 sessions previously. In detail, the first session is an evaluation interview and is followed by 11 psychological follow-up sessions. This measure “can benefit people who could not previously access psychological support for financial reasons”.
Advance the costs to be followed by a psychologist
As part of the My Psy Support system, the patient pays the psychologist directly after each session or at the end of several sessions, depending on the choice of the specialist. In order to be reimbursed, the patient sends the psychologist’s care sheet to his or her health insurance organization along with the accompanying letter from the doctor. “Health Insurance covers 60% of the cost of the sessions. Your mutual or supplementary insurance, within the framework of responsible supplementary health contracts (covering 95% of policyholders), finances up to 40% of the cost of the sessions. If you do not benefit from additional coverage, you can, subject to resource conditions, benefit from the Solidarity Health Supplement. Otherwise, this 40% share of the cost of the sessions will remain your responsibility.
