Initially, Piet Mondrian (1872-1944) mainly painted figuratively, but once he arrived in the then Mecca of the arts, Paris, he soon turned to Cubism, before returning to the Netherlands to eventually end up with the style with which he would become world famous: rectangular surfaces with a primary color here and there.
