Endometriosis is a frequent gynecological disease since it affects approximately 1 in 10 French women. In addition to more or less intense pelvic pain, this pathology can be responsible for fertility disorders: according to theEndoFrance association30% to 40% of sick women face an infertility problem.
Unfortunately still little known, endometriosis is the subject of sometimes dangerous assumptions… Last illustration to date, an extract from the program “It starts today” broadcast this Sunday, May 1, 2022 on social networks. Scheduled to be broadcast on France 2 this Wednesday, May 4, 2022, the program was deprogrammed in disaster.
Endometriosis, the reflection of a family “guilt”?
The reason ? A controversial intervention, that of a guest of the show, Natacha Calestrémé. Presented as “author and specialist in personal development”, the guest responds to a woman with endometriosis who questions her about her miscarriages: “you inherited from this grandmother or great-grandmother who had children, who lost children. Endometriosis, for all those who listen to us, is a message from our body that tells us that before there was enormous suffering from a person who associated the word childhood and death, and childhood and death , it doesn’t go together. There’s a guilt, there’s a sadness and we gotta get rid of it” she asserts.
Faced with these widely controversial remarks, the reactions were not long in coming. “There is no scientific proof that endometriosis has such an origin. None, while we are sorely lacking in fundamental researchfor example tweeted the AAERS, a collective for scientific research around Adenomyosis and Endometriosis. This type of talk is misleading for a physical illness that can be serious.“
According to theInsermendometriosis indeed increases the risk of miscarriage, particularly during the first trimester of pregnancy: the excess risk has been estimated at around 10%.
