Marisol Touraine extends the possibility of benefiting from CMU-C to isolated students in precarious situations. 2,600 young people are affected by the measure.
Complementary universal health coverage (CMU-C), which is granted to people who need free support for the additional part of their health expenses (including in hospitals) will be extended once again. The Minister of Health, Marisol Touraine, has decided to extend it to isolated students in precarious situations. A decision published today in an order in the Official Journal.
13 priorities for young people
“Improving the health of young people and promoting access to prevention and care is one of the 13 priorities for young people established by the government during the Interministerial Youth Committee (CIJ) of February 2013”, it is written in the press release from the Ministry of Health. Isolated students in a precarious situation will be able to benefit from the CMU-C, regardless of the home of their place of attachment. Until today, only young people under 25 attached to the parental home were awarded the CMU-C. This text responds to situations of isolation or family breakdown.
2,600 students should be able to benefit from it
Students can now submit an individual CMU-C application. The decree published this Tuesday, June 3 specifies these conditions, and thus allows these provisions to come into force. Students who benefit from aid from the national emergency aid fund (FNAU), allocated in view of the financial difficulties they encounter, may for example benefit from the CMU-C on an individual basis. This measure concerns 2,600 students.
As a reminder, as part of the Poverty Reduction Plan, in January 2013 the government had already raised the ceiling for complementary universal health coverage by 8.3%. In July 2013, this measure had thus enabled 204,000 new beneficiaries to be taken care of by the CMU-C. The goal again, to allow people with low incomes to seek free treatment.
