Dating sites don’t always have a good reputation, yet they clearly make dating easier.
Between applications and dating sites, the competition is fierce. More and more choices are available to users, allowing them to refine their searches. With nearly 21% of French women and 33% of French people who have already surfed on these sites, their popularity testifies to this new way of meeting. However, does this mean that we can find love there?
Almost one in ten couples met on the internet
According to a study carried out by the National Institute of Demographic Studies (INED), it is now 9% of couples who have met via an application or a dating site. For second unions, when people are divorced or separated from a first partner, couples formed through the internet are then 10%.
The workplace, evenings with friends and public places remain the preferred meeting places for most couples. However, with one in 10 couples who know each other on the internet, dating sites are beginning to establish themselves as a safe bet for some.
A large majority go online for casual or sexual relations
With an increasing number of young people (one in 4 recognizes using at least one site), most users connect for brief encounters.
According to an IFOP survey, 72% of men and 47% of women admit to having had sex without a future via an application or a dating site.
Dating still taboo
Even if this practice is becoming commonplace, only 28% of registered people talk about it to those around them and 21% only to certain people around them. Often perceived as the last chance to meet someone, dating sites are nevertheless a way like any other to find love.
