Overworked, too much work, difficulties with some patients, fear of not getting there: physiotherapists and private nurses also suffer from professional exhaustion. According to a survey conducted by the Association for the Assistance of Health Professionals and Liberal Doctors and the Regional Union of Health Professionals (URPS) of Ile-de-France, 62% of nurses and 61% of physiotherapists ‘Ile-de-France feel personally threatened by burnout.
Fed up with paperwork!
Almost all of the caregivers who answered the questionnaire cited excess paperwork (87% of nurses, 90% of physiotherapists) as the main cause of their professional burnout. Then come the length of the working days, the number of daily acts which does not cease to lengthen and the difficulties with the patients. Nurses, for their part, place in third position the non-recognition of their action as a source of burn-out.
Among the solutions mentioned by respondents from both professions to improve their condition:
– Improve social protection for private caregivers
– Take into account the caregiver for himself
– Recognize burnout syndrome as an occupational disease
– Establish medical and psychological care dedicated to health professionals.
However, neither side plans to change course. Only 14% of physiotherapists and 21% of nurses say they want to change jobs.
According to a recent study by the occupational risk prevention firm Technologia, professional burnout affects approximately 3 million employees, all professional categories combined. This syndrome, which results in great fatigue or even depression, is particularly high among farmers, artisans, traders, business leaders and executives.
