Meningococci (A,B,C,Y,W), hepatitis (A and B), pneumococcus, tetanus, diphtheria, rabies, influenza, poliomyelitis, whooping cough, papillomavirus: the administration of these vaccines will be extended to three professions. For now, nurses can give them to anyone over 16, without a prescription.
The extension of vaccine skills had been recommended for three professions, by the High Authority for Health:
- nurses (for which the government validated the authorization as of April 24),
- midwives and pharmacists. The latter two can vaccinate against these 15 pathologies but are still subject to prior medical prescription for the moment. Pharmacists should be able to vaccinate without a prescription from October 2022.
Soon no more need for a prescription?
Midwives are currently authorized to prescribe and vaccinate pregnant women against rubella, measles, mumps, tetanus, diphtheria, poliomyelitis, whooping cough, hepatitis B, influenza, papillomavirus, meningococcal C and chickenpox. They will therefore see their scope widen.
Until now, pharmacists could only vaccinate against the flu, recalls the Public Service site.
By this fall, the authorization could be extended and skip the prescription for all these diseases in these two professions. THE vaccination fees will also be reimbursed by Social Security.
