BMW intends to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its Motorsport branch with great fanfare. Thus, in addition to the future M2, the German manufacturer plans to offer an even more radical version of its X5M Competition, which could follow in the footsteps of the M5 CS.
BMW is actively preparing the festivities for the fiftieth anniversary of its M label, scheduled for spring 2022. Thus, alongside the very likely new M2, the Bavarian manufacturer could offer other variations, such as an evolution of its X5 M Competition.
An even more bestial X5M
Arrived at the end of 2020 on the market, the X5M will be restyled in 2023, at the same time as the entire BMW SUV range. However, the German firm seems to be preparing a special version for the 50th anniversary of its Motorsport branch. In fact, camouflaged prototypes of the X5, in its ultra sporty version, were found on Spanish roads. The grille, as well as the front bumper, will be modernized in order to accentuate the aggressiveness of the model a little more. The light signature could be inspired by that of the recent M5 CS with a more yellow look.
More powerful and lighter?
For the mechanical part, the V8 biturbo 4.4 which equips the models present in the catalog should be kept, but it could display a power greater than the 625 hp currently supplied. The M5 CS is already developing 635 hp… As for the already sharpened chassis with the Active M differential, the adaptive suspension with even more precise settings and the two braking levels (Comfort and Sport), it could receive a boost in terms of weight by following a diet similar to that of the M5 CS, which has lost 70 kg compared to the classic version.
