The Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus is gradually imposing itself in metropolitan France: “probably majority“in Île-de-France according to experts, it would also be responsible for more than 70% of new contaminations in Nièvre (58), more than 50% of new contaminations in Charente (16) and more than 40% of new contaminations in Seine-et-Marne (77).
Is the Omicron variant responsible for specific symptoms? While at this time there is no certainty, some doctors believe they have identified symptoms specific to Omicron – for example, night sweats.
15% of children infected with Omicron would develop a “rash”
Moreover, interviewed in early December 2021 by our British colleagues from Sky NewsDr. David Lloyd, physician and surgeon, believes that the Omicron variant is the cause of a particular symptom in children: a sudden rash, called “rash”.
According to Dr. David Lloyd, about 15% of children infected with the Omicron variant would develop a “rash”, that is to say small red pimples and/or red patches which suddenly appear on the skin. This specific symptom would be added to the more “classic” symptoms of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus: itchy throat, dry cough, sneezing, joint and muscle pain, headaches, fatigue, loss of appetite…
As of December 22, 2021, 145 children under the age of 9 were hospitalized in France due to Covid-19. As a reminder, anti-Covid-19 vaccination is now accessible to all children aged 5 to 11: in total, 5.77 million young French people would be affected, according to the High Authority for Health.
