The 1998 Bizzarrini Kjara concept car, a diesel hybrid speedster, is offered for sale in the Netherlands. This unique vehicle is a testament to the avant-gardism of the engineer to whom we owe some of the most legendary Ferraris.
Long after the end of the manufacturer Bizzarrini SpA, Giotto Bizzarrini continued to work on various vehicles, including concept cars presented under different brands. The Italian engineer, who was one of the “fathers” of the Ferrari 250 GT SWB and 250 GTO among others (excuse the little), thus designed in 1998 the Kjara, a concept of tray which had, among other things, to be already hybrid. This unique vehicle, badged Scuderia Bizzarrini, is currently for sale.
A sporty diesel hybrid
Presented at a time when the Toyota Prius was the only representative of the electrified automobile in large series, the Kjara was designed to be both thrilling and fuel efficient. This small two-seater speedster has a Lancia original five-cylinder turbo diesel in its central rear position. This block is paired with a five-speed manual gearbox and, most importantly, combined with a 54 hp electric powertrain. The two-seater is supposed to go from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.3 s and reach 205 km / h in peak. Its tubular frame and its body in composite material are made partly of carbon fiber. The design of the car gives pride of place to the tips and taut surfaces, not without evoking the Ford style of the time for example. The two thin air intakes at the front are reminiscent of the Bizzarrinis of the 1960s. As it is a concept car, the Kjara does not offer the level of finish of a production model and shows some approximate adjustments, in terms of its lights and its interior for example.
Bizzarrini comes out of oblivion
The Scuderia Bizzarrini Kjara is offered for sale by the Aaldering Gallery, in the Nederlands. Its odometer reads 1,234 km. The electrified part of the mechanics has been disconnected from the thermal block; this one shot recently, according to the announcement. The car is accompanied by a vintage presentation document. Its price has not been made public. The name of Bizzarrini could soon return to the front of the stage. In the fall of 2020, the brand passed into the fold of the British holding company with Kuwaiti funds Pegasus, which plans to relaunch it with “continuation” models.
