It’s done: after several months of negotiations, and a first refusal by Monsanto, the marriage, or rather, the absorption of the agricultural giant Monsanto by Bayer will take place, for the tidy sum of 60 billion euros. .
Control over seeds and pesticides
By acquiring Monsanto, world leader in GMOs, pesticides, but also phosphate fertilizers that boost agricultural productivity, Bayer aims to become the world number 1 in food. The group thus formed will control more than a third of the world seed market, alongside a dozen other players.

The objective, for Bayer-Monsanto, is to become the world leader in the living economy, knowing that it will be necessary to feed and treat more than 9 billion inhabitants on the planet in 2050, against “only” 7.5 billion today. On the one hand, the group will provide seeds and pesticides, on the other, drugs and treatments of all kinds.
There are many bridges between the two activities, knowing that they have in common chemistry. The know-how of German research teams, but also of Bayer’s numerous research labs around the world, will benefit Monsanto.
Next step: what will become of Monsanto, the brand, consequently damaged by the controversies around GMOs and Roundup that the American group produces? He said to himself that Monsanto could disappear, not to be called Bayer anymore.
