Go to bed at a fixed time
The holidays are synonymous with total relaxation for children, who have the right to stay up late. They also need more time to find a good rhythm. However, we will have to get back to good habits because, after a good night’s sleep, children are more attentive at school: sleep promotes learning and memorization. It is therefore advisable to impose working hours on them. sleep and regular meals a week before school starts. The Insv (National Institute of Sleep and Vigilance) also reminds us that children need more sleep time to stay focused at school.
Adopt a good balanced diet
During the holidays, it is difficult to refuse an outing to the pizzeria or a scoop of ice cream to your children. And if you were right to take advantage of it this summer, you will nevertheless have to find a good nutritional balance to better face the stress of the start of the school year and the drop in temperatures.
Some very simple dietary rules must be respected to protect the good health of children:
– We repeat it once again even if the message is now known to all: we eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables every day. One serving is one handful. For example, 2 apricots are considered one serving of fruit.
– In addition to vegetables, cook for your child cereal products and starches at each meal, depending on appetite and physical activity. These products are important for muscle and brain function. On the other hand, be careful with breakfast cereals which can be very sweet.
– There are 3 or 4 dairy products (yogurt, glass of milk, piece of cheese, etc.) per day. The dairy products are essential for the growth and strength of bones because they provide protein and calcium.
– Meat, fish and eggs are important sources of protein and iron. If you want your child to eat meat at lunch and dinner, plan small portions. Whatever the meat, favor the less fatty pieces. Limit nuggets, cordon bleu and breaded fish as they are very high in fat.
Monitor oral hygiene
Back to school is the time to check if your children can benefit from the “M’T teeth” program. Dedicated to children and adolescents aged 6, 9, 12, 15 and 18, it allows you to take advantage of a free dental prevention appointment, one month before the date of the birthday. Once the invitation from the Health Insurance has been received, all you have to do is make an appointment with a dentist, who will determine if treatment is necessary. These will be fully covered by the health organization.
Check eyesight and hearing
Make sure your child can see well. Sight conditions learning to read and academic success. These are excellent reasons to have your eyesight checked by an ophthalmologist. If in doubt, a sound check hearing can also be useful.
16, the age of the first vital card
As your teenager approaches 16, the Health Insurance will send him a file by post to complete so that he can receive his very first vital card. This means that he will receive his personal social security number to keep for life, but also that he will have to take the necessary steps to declare his attending physician. The latter should preferably be a person who already knows your child because the attending physician will be his main referent. It is he who will accompany him on his health journey, advise him and provide him with personalized care. To do this, simply choose a professional and fill out the dedicated form (possibility of carrying out this process on the internet with the doctor).
Contraception for minors
Since last March, the contraception is free and anonymous for minors between 15 and 18 years old. Pharmacists can therefore deliver a contraceptive free of charge to underage girls with a medical prescription. If the young girl wishes to benefit from secrecy, the pharmacist will implement the procedure provided for this purpose. This delivery of contraceptives will not be mentioned on the Health Insurance reimbursement statement.
Vaccination for the whole family
Young and old alike can take advantage of the start of the school year to update their vaccinations. A simple consultation with a doctor, with the health record, allows you to have your vaccinations checked.
It is important to get vaccinated against measleswhose number of cases has increased sharply since 2008. Moreover, unlike other vaccinations, the Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) vaccine is 100% reimbursed by the health organization.
