Toyota and Stellantis extend their commercial vehicle partnership to large vans. The Japanese manufacturer will launch in 2024 a van based on the Citroën Jumper, Fiat Ducato, Opel Movano and Peugeot Boxer, which will be offered like them in an electric version.
While the partnership that linked the Stellantis and Toyota groups in the production of city cars ended with the launch of the Toyota Aygo X and the discontinuation of the Peugeot 108 and Citroën C1, the one that associates them for the manufacture of light utility vehicles continues. It is even blowing out its tenth candle. The collaboration is now expanding to the segment of large vans, in addition to compact (Peugeot Partner & co./Toyota Proace City) and medium (Peugeot Expert & co./Toyota Proace) models.
A Japanese van on a French base produced in Poland and Italy
The Peugeot Boxer, Citroën Jumper, Opel Movano and Fiat Ducato will therefore have a new “cousin”, Japanese this one, since it will be marketed by Toyota. But it will indeed be a rebadged Stellantis model, produced like the others by the Euro-American group in its factories in Gliwice (Poland) and Atessa (Italy). Like European models, the Japanese van will be offered in a 100% electric version. It will be Toyota’s very first high-volume van on the Old Continent.
Large vans updated in 2024
The name of the model has not yet been revealed. But the marketing of the vehicle is only announced for mid-2024, date on which Renault will release its new Master (code XDD). It will therefore coincide with an update of Stellantis vans which will aim to make them compliant with the European GSR2 regulation imposing new active safety systems (intelligent speed adaptation, lane keeping assistance, etc.) on vehicles approved from the 6th July 2022 (new models) and in 2024 for all vehicles. Developed by Fiat, the next generation of Stellantis large vans is not expected before 2027.
