The soft tires react strangely
Yesterday Max Verstappen had problems with the soft tires in Saudi Arabia. However, in this training it appears that it is not only the case with Red Bull and Max.
There is something strange going on with the soft tires this weekend. Normally you are fastest when you do your first lap on the soft tires. But on this track, the drivers are slower than the competition on the hard tires on their first lap on the softs. Only after a few laps on the soft tires do the lap times start to get better.
It seems that the rubber on the soft tires is moving too much on this track with a lot of fast corners, causing the cars to lose traction. The hard tires have a sturdier construction on the side of the tire. So there is a chance that the drivers on the harder tires will try to qualify later today.
In the end, Max Verstappen is the best to overcome the problems. He sets the fastest time and he even manages to do that on a new set of softs. Lewis Hamilton is in second place with a gap of more than two tenths, but that time is on the hard tires.
