Red Bull is a lot faster than Mercedes
Yesterday no one could match Max Verstappen’s time in the 2nd free practice. Valtteri Bottas came closest to the Dutchman with a gap of more than four tenths.
In this 3rd free practice of the GP of Mexico 2021 it takes a little longer before the drivers show what they have to offer. Before practice started, there was a classic car race on the track. One of those cars spilled oil, making the track slippery. At the start of the training, all teams stare at each other to see who will clear the track first.
After 20 minutes, the first drivers finally start their qualifying simulations. Even then, the Red Bulls leave everyone far behind. Verstappen has been at the top of the lap time board for a long time. Still, it is Pérez who ends this training session as the fastest driver at the last minute, much to the delight of the home crowd.
The difference between the fastest time of Pérez and the fastest time of Hamilton is more than six tenths. Mercedes therefore seems to face a difficult qualifying later tonight.
