Pérez sets the fastest time
Where Max Verstappen complained yesterday about the busy traffic on the Circuit of the Americas, this 3rd free practice starts more quietly. Only after fifteen minutes do the first drivers start practicing for qualifying, which starts later tonight.
In the beginning it is a matter of switching between the drivers of Red Bull and Mercedes. Verstappen and Hamilton both drive a lap at the end of the training that they would put at the top of the lap time board. But both drivers go off track, causing the stewards to cancel their lap times. As a result, Pérez is fastest at the end of the session.
The Ferraris are also fast in Austin. Both Leclerc and Sainz are not very far from the top times. Sainz even takes the fastest time for a while, but is unable to keep it. So the Ferraris will hope that a Red Bull or a Mercedes makes a mistake in qualifying. Then they have the greatest chance of taking advantage of it.
