On the occasion of the presentation of the report by Doctor Donata Marra on “The quality of life of health students” to the Ministers of Health and Higher Education, the latter announced that they had adopted fifteen measures “identified as levers of transformation” in order to reduce student suffering.
“Health students are nearly 350,000. They represent the future of our system health. Their well-being, their quality of life are a central concern, for two reasons. stressed the ministers. “First, because a society that is doing well is a society whose young people are doing well. But also because the health and well-being of caregivers are essential conditions for the proper functioning of our health system and the quality of the care offered..
Focus on the 15 commitments
Among the 15 commitments, some support and intervention measures will be more immediate:
- Create in all universities a support structure for victims of violence.
- Create in all health faculties a support structure, open to all students and train resource people, including among students for screening signs of mental distress.
- Set up a national unit for the assessment of exceptional situations allowing the change of sector or subdivision.
- Ensure the systematic evaluation of internship sites by students.
- Improve working conditions during internships with strict respect for safety rest and limitation to 48 hours of weekly working time.

Other measures include:
- Access for all health students to preventive medicine, cultural and sports activities by the start of the 2019 school year at the latest.
- A redefinition of the curriculum in order to get out ofa logic of competition.
- The creation of a national support center, endowed with specific means, and bringing together teachers from all health training courses as well as regional structures allowing recourse for unresolved difficulties.
- The production of a clip to help students detect psychological suffering in their colleagues and the development of first aid training in mental health.
