Windows 11 launches on October 5

Microsoft today announced the official release date of Windows 11. The operating system will be released on October 5. From that moment on it will be possible to download and install Windows 11, and it will also be included on new PCs from that date.

Windows 11 will be rolled out to Windows 10 users with an appropriate computer starting October 5. For users who do not have a Windows 11 compatible computer, the new operating system can be run as a clean install. But Microsoft has more to tech site The Verge announced that Windows 11 users on unsupported systems may not receive updates.

System requirements

There is quite a bit to do about the system requirements of Windows 11. For example, your computer must have a certain model processor, at least have a TPM 2.0 chip and support secure boot. Many older computers will not contain a TPM chip, but secure boot is an option that has been present on computers for some time. However, checking for the presence of the TPM chip, a supported processor, and secure boot is not done when Windows 11 is run as a clean install on a computer. In that case, your previous Windows version, if any, will be removed, so you should back up your data in advance to restore it later in Windows 11.
