Singer Lynda Lemay suffers from Eustachian tube disease, a pathology also called tubal incompetence. We take stock of this little-known pathology.
- Singer Celine Dion also has Eustachian tube disease.
- Because of her pathology, she has already had to cancel concerts.
“I no longer have the same physical strengthsinger Lynda Lemay explained to the magazine Closer. I suffer from tubal incompetence, a disease of the eustachian tube which connects the nose to the ears. Dizziness and dizziness are disabling. As long as I can perform the show, I give it my all! Then I’ll find another way of expression“.
Tubal open bite leads to bothersome symptoms
This pathology indeed affects the Eustachian tube, an area that connects the middle ear to the back of the nose and throat. This part serves to equalize the air pressure between the middle ear and the outer ear. Usually the eustachian tube is closedexcept when an individual yawns or swallows, precisely to restore this pressure.
But when a person has an open tubal disease – or eustachian tube disease – this area opens up occasionally for no reason. Thus, the patient may feel quite strange and unpleasant symptoms like hearing, by resonance, the beating of her heart, her breathing or, worse for a singer, her own voice. In the endpatients often develop hearing problems, with a feeling of muffled sounds.
Eustachian tube: an operation exists to relieve symptoms
To relieve these symptoms, patients can undergo rehabilitation sessions with speech therapists and/or physiotherapists. In some cases, if the suffering is too great, a surgical intervention can also be proposed to fill the tissues of the Eustachian tube. But the effect is not lasting and therefore the operation must be repeated several times.
