I would like to know what clarified butter is. I accidentally took that with me and just fried in it. It didn’t taste bad either, but still I see no reason to use it more often.

Ghee is a commonly used hard type of fat in Indonesian cuisine, among others. Ghee is made by skimming off the milk components while butter is melting. So only butterfat remains. This is what you call clarified butter. You can use ghee for baking, roasting and frying. Ghee is suitable for this, because the fat can withstand high temperatures.
Ghee is not in the Wheel of Five and is therefore not a healthy choice. Ghee contains a lot of calories: about 900 kilocalories per 100 grams. Ghee also contains a lot of saturated fatty acids. Saturated fat raises your LDL cholesterol, which increases your risk of cardiovascular disease.
What are healthy fats for frying?
Liquid baking and roasting products are included in the Wheel of Five. These fats contain a lot of unsaturated fatty acids. Unsaturated fat reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease. Examples of suitable healthy oils for frying are: peanut oil, olive oil, corn oil, rice oil, salad oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil, rapeseed oil and stir-fry oil.
Can you say that one product is healthy?
You can’t really say whether one product is healthy or unhealthy. It always depends on how much or how often you eat or drink it. We can therefore say whether a product fits in a healthy diet. Read more.
