Verstappen qualifies third, but starts in second place
In the wet free practice this morning, Mercedes was stuck in and behind the middle bracket. Does the Mercedes not perform on a wet track, or were they up to something else? Be that as it may, on dry Mercedes is supreme. Hamilton (1:22.868) takes the fastest time in qualifying for the Turkish GP with Bottas (1:22.998) right behind him. Verstappen takes third place (1:23.196), but will start in second place tomorrow. Hamilton starts ten places further back due to an engine change.
That also means that Leclerc starts in third place with Gasly behind it and Alonso behind that again. Hamilton will start from 11th with Vettel in front of him and Ocon behind him. In his catch-up race he also has to pass Norris, who is probably hungry for a duel. Alonso has also been able to annoy Hamilton well before. It’s up to Verstappen to get past Bottas as quickly as possible and hope Hamilton gets stuck in traffic. There is a chance of rain.
