Verstappen is well behind Hamilton
Where the 1st free practice was still a session in which the drivers explored the track, in this 2nd free practice of the Turkey GP 2021 they are pushing the limit a bit more. We see many drivers miss a corner. The biggest problem this weekend is understeer. A number of drivers complain that they cannot steer the car. Kimi Räikkönen, however, has a problem of a very different nature. His hydration system leaks, so his helmet gets completely wet first and then he gets a foot bath. As you expect, the Finn is not happy.
Verstappen also has difficulties in this 2nd training. Hamilton is fastest in one fast lap. Verstappen is six tenths behind. That’s an even bigger backlog than we saw earlier this morning.
Later in this session, the drivers will run race simulations on harder tires and with more fuel on board. In the second part of this training, Hamilton also sets the fastest times. The gap of Verstappen in those race simulations is about four tenths. That is less than in the practice lap before qualifying, but still a problematic difference with Hamilton
