Prof. Philippe Even was removed from the Order for his comments about his colleagues, described as “academic whores”.
In a book, he had called his colleagues “academic whores” and “godfathers, in the Sicilian sense of the term”. A few months later, the sulphurous Professor Philippe Even received the award. The regional disciplinary chamber of the Order of Physicians has decided to remove the pulmonologist from the institution.
The National Order itself lodged a complaint following the publication of this work, Lies and credulity in medicine, which raised very interesting questions (conflicts of interest in research…), with a method however dubious, turning to defamation and contempt of the profession as a whole.
Limited impact
For the Order, the remarks made in this book contravened article 31 of the code of ethics which stipulates that “any doctor must refrain, even outside the exercise of his profession, from any act likely to bring into disrepute. this one ”.
It must be said that Philippe Even is not his first attempt in terms of iconoclastic positions. In another book, Guide to 4000 useful, unnecessary or dangerous drugs, released in 2012, the pulmonologist tackled molecules deemed ineffective or toxic, with, again, a scientific methodology leaving something to be desired – while, once again, the questions raised were not lacking in interest. The doctor’s public outing had earned him a ban on practice for a year.
This radiation, especially symbolic, will have no impact: Prof. Even, 84, no longer practices medicine and he himself asked to be deregistered from the ordinal table in 2015.
