He is on all the shows, on television or on the radio. His books regularly sell tens of thousands of copies. But the nutritionist Jean-Michel Cohen risks becoming rarer in the coming months. He is indeed under a ban on practicing medicine for two years – one of which is suspended. The Council of State delivered its opinion on March 15, reveals theMedical News Agency. It thus confirms the verdict of the disciplinary chamber of the College of Physicians.
The case dates back to November 2015. It was on this date that the CNOM decided to suspend Professor Jean-Michel Cohen for 2 years. In question, his activity on a paid coaching site intended to lose weight. Managed by the company Anxa, the site still donates 10% of its profits to the highly publicized nutritionist. He participates effectively in the program since he writes a daily newsletter, sent to subscribers, and his face is omnipresent on the site.
A lack of knowledge of the rules
But the Order of Physicians does not see this activity very favorably. He accuses the nutritionist of “ethical breaches” related to his participation in the site. By agreeing to associate his name with it, Professor Cohen “disregarded the prohibition on practicing medicine as a business and the obligation to refrain from any advertising process”.
Interviewed in 2015 by buzzfeed, the specialist had denied any ignorance. He explained that he had the rules clarified by the CNOM after the conviction of Dr. Dukan, author of a highly contested diet.
Accuracy or not, the Council of State considers that the verdict of the Order is not abusive. Jean-Michel Cohen will therefore have to stop all exercise for a year. He is also sentenced to pay 2,000 euros to the disciplinary chamber.
