Ten doctors were “punished” by the Order of Physicians after the publication of a column against homeopathy in March 2018 in Le Figaro.
Since 1er January 2020, homeopathy is no longer reimbursed at 30%, but at 15%. Next year, the small granules will no longer be reimbursed at all. The debate around the effectiveness of homeopathy and its reimbursement was relaunched in 2018. In particular following the publication ofa Tribune in Le Figarosigned by 124 health professionals who were also opposed to other “alternative medicine”.
One of the signatories, a doctor from Clichy (Hauts-de-Seine), was sentenced to a three-month suspended sentence. Nine others have received a reprimand from the Order of Physicians, who consider that this platform, “by the excessive form it has adopted, testifies to the violation of the duty of brotherhood and is likely to bring the profession into disrepute”.
“Anger” and “Misunderstanding”
In all, around sixty signatories of the forum were prosecuted by the National Union of Homeopathic Physicians (SNMHF). The disciplinary sanctions pronounced against 10 of them provoked the “anger” and the “incomprehension” of the collective FakeMed who supports them. The suspended suspended doctor, Mathieu Van Dessel, is also the treasurer of this collective. This decision “does not represent a defense of the honor of the profession” of doctor”but a defense of corporatism”according to Mathias Wagon, an emergency doctor in Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis) and one of those who received a reprimand.
Abuses and no scientific proof
It is true that there have already been abuses with homeopathy. A doctor, for example, proposed to treat homosexuality, masturbation and hysteria with granules. A pediatrician was suspended for offering to treat autism with homeopathy. From the point of view of the authorities, the High Authority for Health (HAS) published an opinion in which it considered that homeopathic products had “not scientifically demonstrated sufficient efficacy to justify reimbursement”. An opinion following which the government decided to put an end to it, provoking the anger of the manufacturers.
