Since the start of its commissioning by EDF at the end of 2015, the new Linky electricity meter has not stopped talking about it.
Linky: more practical but very controversial
In August 2015, the law on energy transition provides for the installation of 35 million new generation electricity meters by 2021. Linky meters are supposed to be more practical: electricity readings are done remotely, consumption monitoring can take place on the internet or on a smartphone, the box is replaced and activated in 24 hours …
However, the device is also highly controversial, in particular because of the consequences it could have on the health of consumers.
Great debate around Linky meters
Last January, the Robin des toits association warned about harmful to health of these counters. The cause according to her: the very high electromagnetic waves they emit could cause electrosensitivity, a pathology recently recognized in France causing insomnia, headaches, joint disorders …
In June, the National Frequencies Agency (ANFR) explained for its part, supporting study, that these new machines were less dangerous than induction hobs and cathode-ray televisions.
No more electromagnetic waves than old meters
On September 22, the ANFR developed a new series of measurements in the laboratory and in the homes of several municipalities. The results of this study show that Linky meters would not emit electromagnetic field higher than the old counters. Something to reassure concerns.
