An INSEE study made public on September 18 focused on the health of seniors according to their social origin and the longevity of their parents. Those over 50 would perceive their health according to that of their parents. The longer their parents lived, the more seniors claim to be in good health. The social status of their parents would also play a role. The survey is published in the journal Economy and Statistics of September.
Based on French data from the Share survey (Survey of health, aging and retirement in Europe) conducted in 2004/2005, this research studies, for the first time, the role of the profession of both parents and their state of health. , on that of their descendants in adulthood, controlling for the socio-economic characteristics of
these.
The authors of the report highlight the link between the curves of the perceived health of seniors and the longevity of their parents. They have indeed taken the age of death as an indicator of the health of the parents.
Without taking into account the social situation of the over-50s, they found that their state of health depended directly on the socio-economic situation of the mother. The situation of their father would have an indirect impact on their health because it would first influence their social situation.
