This is an ignored risk of men who opt for the e-cigarette to quit smoking. According to a study of Johns Hopkins University in New York, as is already the case for tobacco, the electronic cigarette would be responsible for erectile dysfunction. So, after following men aged 20-65 with no history of cardiovascular disease but using e-cigarettes found they were 2.4 times more likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction compared to to men who had never used one.
Erectile dysfunction is defined as “the inability to achieve and maintain an erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual intercourse”. We know that tobacco can be responsible for this, in particular because of the tars in cigarettes which make the arteries less elastic. But the American researchers wanted to check whether the electronic cigarette could cause the same deleterious effects.
Their study involved more than 45,000 people divided into non-smokers, occasional smokers or heavy smokers. The researchers then asked them the following question: “How would you describe your ability to obtain and maintain an erection adequate for satisfactory sexual intercourse? Would you say that you are … always or almost always able to obtain and maintain an erection; sometimes or never able to achieve and maintain an erection? “These were defined as having moderate to severe erectile dysfunction,” the researchers explain.
After eliminating the consequences possibly due to overweight, advanced age or health problems such as diabetes, cholesterol or hypertension, the researchers estimated that vaping was associated with a 2.4 times greater risk of suffer from erectile dysfunction
