They wanted this immersion into the heart of the daily life of caregivers, whether they are doctors, nurses, caregivers or midwives, to be an electric shock. And the goal has already been achieved on November 21, 2023 during the preview at the MK2 cinema in Bastille of the two 52-minute episodes of the documentary. “We, Caregivers”.
“We, Caregivers”: a shocking inventory of the health system
The teams of 13 Productions And France Television have succeeded in their challenge, at least in this cinema, of collective awareness of the hospital disaster and our current health system. A feeling exacerbated by the strong and poignant words delivered by exhausted caregivers, and supported by specialists in economics and health policy. It is in fact, as Cyril Perez, one of the directors, indicated before the start of the screening, a “committed film with high human added value”.
When in 2000, the WHO awarded France 1time place in its ranking of the best health systems in the world, we thought we would stay there. But where are we more than 20 years later? This is the answer to this question that the protagonists and the team of this documentary tried to provide, while providing a strong and poignant analysis of the current state of the health system and access to care.
“We, Caregivers”: words from caregivers across France
The caregivers present in this film come from all over France. They work in small maternity wards, in regional hospitals, in private practices, in university hospitals, in multidisciplinary health centers, in cities, in city centers or in rural areas. They all agreed to play the game and share their daily lives.
They are given the floor and they share with us their suffering, but also their passion for the profession that they do as best they can in difficult conditions. Their words highlight the deterioration of our health system and the lack of access to care for a growing number of people.
From pricing to activity for hospital centers, to the lack of places and availability in hospitals and city practices, including the significant reduction in caregivers, everything is swept away with force and frankness.
“We, Caregivers”: cries of anger and exhaustion in the face of the deterioration of access to care
This film makes us feel that it is becoming more than urgent to do what is necessary so that access to care for all is a true reality, and also so that these health professionals do not resign in the face of the deterioration of the health care system.
The presence, during this Parisian preview, of certain speakers including Olivier Brumelot (responsible for coordinating documentaries at France 3 Régions), Gilles Perez and Claire Feinstein (the two directors), Matthieu Aron (senior reporter at the Obs and co-author of the book ” Infiltrators “), as well as many caregivers who were part of the film, only accentuated the emotions and messages released by this documentary series.
