Because we don’t get it
Subaru still sells cars in the Netherlands. But since none of the models are a direct descendant of rally cars – and especially not fast – you’ll be forgiven for forgetting that. Even the Levorg, which was still quite cool, is no longer available here. The Japanese market is luckier. There they get this Subaru Levorg STI Sport R with 275 hp and 375 Nm. Of course, it has permanent four-wheel drive.
The name gives the impression that Subaru crashed the Levorg into the rotating rack of adhesive badges next to the Halfords checkout, but we’re jealous of our friends from the Far East nonetheless. A small consolation for us is that the Subaru Levorg STI Sport R only comes with a CVT automatic transmission. ew. But still: a cool thing, isn’t it? It is very reminiscent of Impreza wagons from the 1990s and has a powerful drivetrain to match.
The Subaru Levorg STI Sport R would fit well into the street scene
Well, it may not be a direct descendant of the STI that sent drivers to muddy podiums. But in the street scene of dull crossovers and dusty station wagons, this would be a nice addition. Incidentally, it would be completely unaffordable here because of the undoubtedly high CO2 emissions of the 2.4-liter four-cylinder boxer engine. Maybe import one in a few years?
