Since his arrival in the corporate world, the manager is doomed to juggle between the pressures of his hierarchy and the constraints related to the teams for which he is in charge. But his way of putting up with this stress permanent has changed in recent years. The specialists, who met in Lille for the 33rd national congress health at work, point to individualism as the main cause of the anxiety that affects more and more managers. “The conditions to withstand this stress have changed, in particular the disappearance of the collective which made it possible to amortize it”, indicates the professor of occupational medicine Paul Frimat, quoted by Le Figaro.
Insecurity and fear of falling short also contribute. A study carried out in eastern France on nearly 300 health executives from five hospitals revealed a depressive state in a third of them. Same observation in the middle of the company. According to a Belgian study carried out by the Faculty of Medicine of Liège, workload is the main cause of stress, for 46% of business leaders, followed by administrative costs (43%), cash flow problems (36% ) and personnel management (34%).
Employees lack support
Managers, on the other hand, spend most of their time sending reports to their superiors and participating in meetings, to the detriment of the close bond with the team. “There is a surprising divorce between managerial activity and operational work”, explains Matthieu Detchessahar, professor of management sciences, quoted by Le Figaro.
A discomfort shared by employees, who suffer the absence of local management. Indeed, people who consult a specialist because of burnout mainly suffer from a lack of support from their supervisor.
