Playing sports is recommended to live in good health and to avoid the risk of heart or vascular accidents. A recent study goes further and points to the difference between different types of sports.
The difference between sports affects our heart health
A recent study conducted by researchers at St. George’s University in Grenada (West Indies) goes further than what we already knew about the benefits of regular physical activity at any age. This time we know a little more about the different benefits acquired depending on the chosen sport. So, static sport or dynamic sport?
The researchers’ work was carried out on two groups of adult volunteers, classified according to their age: the first from 21 to 44 years old, the other including those over 45 years old. They were able to see that people in the younger group who exercised a static activity, such as weight training, saw the risk of cardiovascular disease drops.
Exercise above all
Not easy for you to choose between a static sport or a dynamic sport? Do both! “ Doctors should advise patients to exercise regardless – both types of activity were beneficial. However, static activity seemed more beneficial than dynamic one, and patients who engaged in both types of physical activity fared better than patients who simply increased the level of one type of activity Concludes researcher Maia P. Smith.
Strength training is therefore recommended over a dynamic sport such as cycling or swimming. But the results already showed a significant reduction in this type of disease (from 30 to 70%) from the moment the patient exercised a sporting activity. We already know thathalf an hour of strenuous activity or walking already gives good results.
