It’s amazing but true. If you receive a medicine without an active ingredient, there is still a chance that it will work. Even if it’s a placebo.
Back pain, migraine, depression or rheumatism almost all diseases have a placebo effect. You can’t think of it that crazy, or a fake medicine will work for it.
At sometime
All the more reason to give the placebo a real chance. The fake pill itself does nothing, of course, but your body does react to it. With the expectation, trust and belief in the pill, a healing effect occurs, and even side effects. A placebo ‘works’ best if you think you are getting a real pill. The best way to do this is to let the doctor lie about the effect.
Disagree
But there are also downsides. Placebos used to be used more often by doctors, but since the 1980s this is no longer seen as ethical. It has also been discovered that a placebo can contribute to a cure, if the patient knows that it is a placebo. This was shown by research in people with chronic pain complaints and irritable bowel syndrome. Lying is therefore not always necessary.
