The first containment put in place in France to fight against Covid-19 had consequences on the health of pregnant women and children living in Paris. Here are which ones.
- United Kingdom, Bangladesh, Portugal, Australia… Many countries are reinstating health restrictions to deal with the delta variant.
- In Australia, after having decreed, Friday, June 25, the confinement of four districts of the center of Sydney, the authorities decided to extend, for two weeks, the measure to the whole of the metropolis.
At a time when many countries are reinstating health restrictions in the face of the progression of the Delta variant, a new survey published by Public Health France assessed the impact of the first confinement on children and pregnant women residing in Paris.
A negative impact on the health of children according to 25% of parents
“The objective of this analysis is to describe the impact of the first confinement on a few health indicators for pregnant women and children based on surveys carried out in the PMI service and in municipal crèches, or reception establishments. of early childhood (ECS)”, specify the researchers in the preamble.
Result: the families in the EAPE survey experienced the first confinement in better conditions (more spacious accommodation, more frequent presence of the spouse) than those in the PMI survey. At least 20% of parents in the EEAPE and 25% of the parents in the EPMI declared a negative impact of the first confinement on the studied indicators of the health of the children. In the EPMI, the frequency of certain negative indicators was higher for families in very social housing, such as the appearance of sleep disorders or difficulties in the relationship with the child. On the contrary, in the EEAPE, the frequency of some of them was lower for families outside their usual dwelling.
68.8% of women “particularly worried”
Among pregnant women, 68.8% said they had been “particularly worried” during this period, and health benefits were canceled for 29.5% of them. “
“The first confinement had an overall negative impact on the health of the public received in PMI and in municipal nurseries in Paris”, analyze the authors. “However, this impact seems different depending on the conditions in which the confinement was experienced”, they conclude.
