Chat, spread gossip, tell gossip, talk behind people’s backs. So many expressions to qualify a bias connoted negatively and not recommended by our parents. Yet, it seems that this sneaky activity is a beneficial behavior that distinguishes humans from animals. Robin Dubar, professor of evolutionary psychology at the University of Oxford, says good gossip makes good friends. In other words, spreading gossip sends a message and builds a network with people we trust.
Gossip creates social bond. Therefore, insists the British psychologist, this practice should not be discredited but rather valued as a human trait that contributes to our well-being. Gossip to be better surrounded, more fulfilled and to live longer, here is the virtuous equation.

“The most important thing that will keep you from dying is the size of the social network, explained Professor Dunbar to the Guardian at the Cheltenham Science Festival, held from June 2 to 7. […] Your social network has a huge impact on happiness and well-being “.
Be careful, this is not about criticizing and spreading rumors at all costs. As Jenifer Cole, a senior lecturer in the Department of Psychology at the University of Manchester, notes, gossip has a positive social dimension if used in moderation.
Morality, gossip is like chocolate: consume in moderation.
