Young people are not yet sufficiently aware of the risks to which they expose their hearing system when listening to music, via headsets, on their smartphone. And yet, many of them have already felt the first signs of hearing loss.
Headsets, a dangerous accessory for hearing health
It is increasingly rare to come across a young person in public transport without his phone in his hand, headphones securely attached to his ears. This device has become essential in the daily life of adolescents and this habit could well be dangerous for their health.. This is what worries the National Hearing Day association (JNA), which has just published the results of a survey carried out on the subject.
According to this survey, conducted by the Ifop institute, 100% of young people aged 15 to 17 own and use a smartphone. An everyday object that has become their primary medium for listening to music that 65% of them listen to with earphones. And it is this detail that alerts the health authorities, since the dangerousness of this habit lies, in particular, in the fact of inserting the atria in the hollow of the ear canal.
Many young people admit to listening to their music too loud
The figures also indicate thata quarter of young people recognize listening to music at a high volume, especially when taking public transport which, because it is usually very noisy, requires the volume to be turned up even more, thus further increasing the risk of damage to the hearing system.
For a large part of them, these young people are not aware of the risks to which they are exposed. And yet, many have already experienced the dangerous effects of prolonged and overpowering music. 39% of people under 35 have already experienced tinnitus, either ringing or ringing in the ears, after listening to music. And among them, they are 26% among 15-17 year olds, further reveals this study.
