During this year of virtual confinement and imposed telework, many of us have gained weight (one in three French people would have gained weight). Stress and anxiety about the virus made us want comfort food, not to mention the winter season which, like every year, prompted us to play groundhogs. In the end, the scale easily displays 2-3 kg more.
We don’t wait to erase the kilos of confinement
If you have gained weight, you must take action without delay, because the longer you wait, the more the pounds settle in and the more difficult they are to dislodge. So, be reactive, yes, but without drastic method! Diets that promise to lose 3 kg in a week, such as the cabbage soup diet or the grapefruit diet, are pitfalls to absolutely avoid.
No question of manhandling your body, because it is the yo-yo effect guaranteed with, in the long run, an impossible weight loss. No, you have to go gently, rebalance without forbidding anything, because prohibitions are the door open to frustrations and food compulsions.
We review our lifestyle
Obviously, there is no one-size-fits-all solution that works for everyone. The first thing to do is to review your lifestyle: food (is it balanced and varied? Do you have three meals a day?), but also sleep (do you sleep enough?) and physical activity (do we move at least 1 hour a day?). Sometimes we confuse hunger with the desire to eat, or emotions overwhelm us and make us eat too much.
The foods that have lifted our spirits during all these weeks of confinement are often the same and always very high in calories. Here are the ones to pay special attention to if we don’t want to ruin our sudden urge to lose weight.
What foods to eat to lose weight?
Crudités, cooked vegetables, whole grains, legumes… If these foods remain rich in nutrients essential to the proper functioning of your body, they also have a low energy density.
Vegetable oils and oilseeds must also be present in your daily diet for a healthy body and weight. However, they display a fairly high energy density and should therefore be consumed in moderation.
Taking certain medications, periods of hormonal upheaval, water retention or a sedentary lifestyle can also upset your efforts to lose your extra pounds. So, a little effort, and (re)get into sport. Here is the list of those that burn the most calories.
