Do you want to keep an eye on your weight during the holidays, but still want to enjoy a delicious gourmet meal? Read the following tips and you won’t have to go on a diet in January.
Choose lean types of meat, such as steak, tartare, pork tenderloin or chicken breast. Fatty types are also allowed once, but take one piece of this.
Also try fish. All types of fish are good, although some are a bit oilier. White fish is lean, fish such as salmon, tuna and mackerel are fatty.
Vegetables
Vegetables are also very tasty in gourmet food. Mushrooms, onions and peppers are especially recommended, because they do not have to be cooked first. Instead of frying vegetables, you can also opt for a tasty salad that you serve with it.
Beware of baguette with herb butter. Limit yourself to a few slices with a thin layer of herb butter. You can also make your own herb butter from low-fat margarine with fresh herbs and a clove of garlic. That is a lot healthier than that greasy ready-to-use herb butter.
Liquid margarine
Always use liquid margarine when baking. A drop as big as your fingertip is enough for a pan. You don’t have to put new margarine in your pan every time. Fry the next piece of meat in the remaining cooking fat.
Tip: use a brush to grease the gourmet pans. With this you spread a small amount of oil (or liquid butter) from a bowl into a pan.
Be careful with sauces!
Opt for red sauces or yogurt. Garlic sauce and other white sauces often contain a lot of calories.
