Sleeping well is absolutely essential for slimming and staying slim: thus, several scientific studies have demonstrated a link between obesity and certain sleep disorders (such as insomnia and reduced sleep time) as well as a tendency to problematic eating behaviors (understand: nibbling, junk food, etc.) in “little sleepers”.
A new study from the University of Chicago (in the United States), published this Monday, February 7, 2022 in the specialized journal JAMA Internal Medicinedrives the nail home again: according to American researchers, it would be enough to sleep an hour more per day to reduce your calorie intake significantly and therefore lose weight… without changing anything (or almost) in your lifestyle.
Sleep better to eat less… and lighten up effortlessly
The researchers worked with a group of overweight young adults (with a body mass index over 25, therefore) who habitually slept less than 6.5 hours per night. Thanks to personalized advice on their lifestyle, these volunteers managed to increase their average sleep time by around 1.2 hours per night. The scientists found, by comparing the group of participants with a control group, that the former consumed (on average) 270 Kcal less per day.
A reduction in caloric intake necessarily beneficial for the silhouette: in their work, American researchers estimate that prolonging this good habit for 3 years could result in a weight loss of around 12 kilos. As a reminder, according to a national survey published in 2018, the French sleep around 7 hours and 48 minutes during the week, 8 hours and 42 minutes during weekends and holidays.
