At least in Germany, but it won’t be any different here
Ice cream, TVs and coffee. These are things that have become cheaper recently, according to the Dutch CBS. Furthermore, almost everything has become more expensive. Cars are more expensive, gasoline is more expensive and electricity is getting more expensive. But the poison cup is not yet empty: car parts have also become more expensive. At least in Germany, but it can’t be missed that they cost more here too.
German Insurance Association (GDV) is happy to investigate the cost of spare parts. Handy, since it is their insurers who are allowed to pay for those costs. According to the most recent figures, the parts have increased by an average of six percent within a year. Counting from 2013, prices have increased by an average of 44 percent, while inflation over that period is only 13 percent. That reports Automobilwoche.
Auto parts have become much more expensive due to a monopoly
According to the German counterpart of the Dutch Association of Insurers, the manufacturers of the spare parts have a ‘quasi-monopoly’. The parts are protected in such a way that they cannot be counterfeited by third parties. The manufacturers of the car parts can therefore ask what they want. Not only are you the last one if you want to replace something yourself, but the premium will also be more expensive for everyone.
Other causes
What is not said is that auto parts have probably also become more expensive to make. Just look at modern headlights or all the sensors in the grilles of new cars. Raw materials are also often more expensive. On the other hand, the price of a boot lid has increased by no less than 60 percent since 2013 and they probably won’t have changed very much.
