If the manufacturer is not officially present at Retromobile 2022, for as many beautiful cars have made the trip through the clubs. The Peugeot 104 and 504 Ti are both celebrating their half-century of existence.
Unlike Citroën and DS, which relied on the structure of L’Aventure Citroën to offer quasi-official stands at Retromobile 2022, the lion brand did not make the trip. It is the independent structures (Amicale 204-304, Amicale 504, Club 104 Peugeot, Club 404 and Club 504) that are present in a somewhat scattered manner. But what does it matter after all: the main thing is indeed that the cars are there. Common thread this year at Rétromobile 2022, the number 4 with the Peugeot 104, 204, 304, 404 and 504 in the spotlight.
50 years of the Peugeot 104
Just like the Renault 5 which is celebrating its 50th birthday, its lifelong rival (and for good reason!) the Peugeot 104 is the same age. Here is a copy dating from 1975 and displaying only 56,000 km on the odometer. It has kept its original paint and, on board, everything is as it left the factory. For the record, only the veil of the rims has been repainted. As one of the first vintages, this 104 therefore does not have a tailgate. It has a fixed rear window. Its owner began his apprenticeship in mechanics at Peugeot in 1978, where he had the opportunity to work on the 104. His passion for this endearing car dates precisely from that time. He also has one of each of the 04 series models: 104, 204, 304, 404, 504 and 604.
50 years of the Peugeot 504 Ti
Right next to it, a very beautiful Peugeot 204 cabriolet catches the eye with its gleaming livery which contrasts sharply with the black color of the Peugeot 404 cabriolet parked just behind it. All tastes are certainly allowed, but this silhouette bodied by Pininfarina is one of Peugeot’s most beautiful. Its Havana-coloured leather interior and very thin steering wheel are perfect for a vehicle of such standing. Let’s end this bed of stars with a Peugeot 504 coupe which, unlike the aforementioned 104, belongs to the latest vintages. Its plastic shields and metric rims with TRX tires are proof of that.
We move a few meters and then join the stand of the Amicale Peugeot 504, where we find a Ti model also blowing out its 50 candles. The 504 Ti is the most successful vehicle, with its powerful 106 bhp injection engine. The family sedan is richly endowed, sporting a crank sunroof and leather upholstery. Small detail, it is fitted with 15-inch TRX-style rims; a ride to which only the coupe and the convertible were entitled, never the sedan.
Peugeot 205 Diabolo and CTI
On the sidelines of the Series 4 clubs, we couldn’t miss a Peugeot 205 Diabolo exhibited in the space for vehicles at less than €25,000. A rare special series that appeared on the Belgian market in 1991. Lacquered in metallic Graphite grey, it has a half-opening sunroof. The only departure from the original: the presence of aftermarket hubcaps, the first ones have certainly not withstood the ravages of time. And, to finish, a very beautiful red Peugeot 205 CTI.
