On August 10, the Mounier company, located in Quézac (Lozère) announced the recall of batches of “Pélardons” goat milk cheeses due to suspected salmonellosis contamination. The cheeses, made with raw milk in accordance with the standards of the PDO (controlled designation of origin), have been marketed since July 21 throughout the country, in retail stores and on local markets.
This Friday, August 24, the Ministries of Health and Agriculture announced that the product recall has been extended. “The investigations carried out by the health authorities have made it possible to highlight several cases of human salmonellosis with a proven link” with the consumption of these “Pélardons” cheeses, the authorities said in a press release. About twenty cases have been identified, to date, all infected people are doing well.
Do not consume the lots
The lots affected by this recall are as follows: AOP Pélardon farmer cheese 60 g Earl Mounier Thierry; approval number of the producer establishment FR 48.122.011 CE; lot numbers between 06/24/2018 and 07/29/2018; all DLC between 08/24/2018 and 09/29/2018.
The authorities are calling on consumers in possession of these cheeses to “destroy them or bring them back to the point of sale where they were purchased”. Food poisoning caused by salmonella is gastrointestinal disturbance, often accompanied by fever within 48 hours of consuming the contaminated product. People who have consumed affected “Pélardons” and have these symptoms should go to their doctor.
