THE cholesterol is a lipid which enters into the composition of our cell membranes and participates in the synthesis of our hormones. It is therefore essential to the body. But in excess, it can also be dangerous and lead to cardiovascular diseases, such as heart attack or stroke.
We distinguish good cholesterol (HDL) bad cholesterol (LDL) : It is considered that the LDL cholesterol level should not exceed 1.6 grams per liter of blood, while the HDL cholesterol level should be greater than 0.35 grams per liter of blood.
The contents of your plate have a determining impact on your bad cholesterol (LDL) level. A diet too rich in fats say saturated will increase the rate. We cite fatty meats, cold meats, pastries or even cheese. The latter should be consumed in moderation if you have cholesterol. You don’t need to eliminate it completely, however. With Raphaël Gruman, nutritionist (The Gruman Method) Top Santé helps you choose cheeses that will not have an impact on cholesterol.
Opt for low-fat cheeses like goat cheese
“ If you have cholesterol, it is best to opt for low-fat cheeses, such as goat’s or sheep’s cheese.recommends Raphaël Gruman. They are less fatty and therefore less rich in cholesterol. They will not have any beneficial aspect for cholesterol, but they will at least not increase it “.
In terms of quantity, however, we limit ourselves to 30 g for women and 40 g for men. The nutritionist offers you:
-Goat cheese ;
-sheep’s cheese;
-feta;
-mozzarella;
-ricotta;
-Camembert ;
-the cancoillotte.
Goat cheese is the least fatty: it contains around 3.5 g of fat. Just like the cancoillotte. Camembert and mozzarella contain double the amount, but are still reasonable in terms of fat content. You can consult the label before purchasing a cheese. If it contains between 3 and 6 g of fat per 30 gyou can consume it (even in case of bad cholesterol).
Cholesterol: what you eat in the morning has less impact
On the other hand, we avoid Gruyère, Cantal, or Comté For example. Hard cheeses are known to be the fattest.
“ If, despite everything, you want to treat yourself to a fattier cheese (or other fatty foods likely to increase your bad cholesterol), eat them in the morning. In the morning, from a chronobiological point of view, this will have less impact on the rise in cholesterol levels. », Specifies Raphaël Gruman.
