There will be a lot of rain in the Ardennes
The drivers are back from vacation and ready for the second half of the season. And the GP of Belgium already seems to fall into the water right away. Literally in this case, because a lot of rain is forecast for the entire weekend. We have of course had false promises from weathermen and women about rain during a race, while it remained bone dry on Sunday. We like to believe the prospect of a wet Formula 1 weekend at Spa-Francorchamps, in the heat of the championship battle.
Changeable weather
There is also a high probability that circumstances will be changeable. Because Spa is located in the Ardennes, the circuit always has its own mini-climate. As a result, the teams often only know at the last minute whether the rain will actually fall on the track. The circuit is also the longest of any track on the F1 calendar. It would therefore not be the first time that one part of the track is wet, while on another part nothing falls at all. A good tire choice is crucial – but choose the right one.
For Verstappen it will mainly be important to finish on a podium place. In the last two races, the former championship leader managed to capture only two points. Max has to stay out of trouble and hope that he has put the bad luck of the first half of the season behind him. We have to say that things often go wrong at the first (and rather tight) corner after the start. It will be exciting first minutes on Sunday, that’s for sure.
