I am a 66-year-old woman and I use blood pressure lowering drugs (atenolol/chlorthalidone 50/12.5 mg). Is it better for me to use LoSalt instead of regular salt? And will I ever get off the meds?

I would discuss the use of LoSalt with your doctor. In LoSalt it is sodium of ordinary table salt largely replaced by potassium. In principle, the use of LoSalt can help lower blood pressure, but it also carries risks. If kidney function is not optimal, potassium levels can become too high. This can lead to cardiac arrhythmias. In itself, the combination of LoSalt with chlorthalidone is common. I don’t know if you’ll ever come off the blood pressure drugs. Why do you want that? Because you think you should not take medication? Or do you suffer from these medicines? In the first case, I would like to point out that it has been proven that you live longer with these medicines than without, so that medicine use is healthy in this case. In the second case, you can consult with your GP about another remedy. By the way: atenolol is an outdated drug that is not advised in high bloodpressureSo I would definitely talk to your doctor.
