Vali Motorsports, a company specializing in the preparation of Porsche, likes to create unique projects. Among them, we find this 911 (964) Safari completely revised to face the desert or the lush jungle. Mechanics, chassis, interior: everything has been modified according to the rules of the art.
Porsche has never hidden its affection for the world of rallying. Specific versions of the 996 GT3, Macan Rallye-Raid or the famous 959 Paris-Dakar and its Rothmans livery: examples abound. Mules of a jacked-up Porsche 911 are driving around Germany, heralding the soon-to-be-returning Safari version. But for the time being, the preparers keep the monopoly of this “off-road” market for individuals. This Vali Motorsports Safari project, based on the 911 type 964, is one of the very best.
A rally version… and Targa?
The Porsche 964 Safari Rallye presented here is based on a 1990 Targa base. This is easily noticed since in some photos, the car has no roof and only a separation remains between the two seats. This is what gives it this name “T-Top” as on a Chevrolet Corvette C3, for example.
The aesthetics have completely evolved, thanks in part to the Rothmans livery tailor-made for the model. The bonnet now receives a spare wheel and the front a protective skid plate and 4 Hella rally headlights. In profile, the German is adorned with 16-inch tires and rims specific to off-road practice. At the rear, Vali Motorsports has designed a fiberglass ducktail that gives the preparation a real racing car look.
Adapted to extreme conditions
On the chassis side, the American specialist did not skimp on the means to make the preparation more reliable. We therefore find reinforced underbody protection, plates to adjust the camber and various elements taken from the world of competition. A long-travel Elephant Racing suspension kit and adjustable swingarms complete the package.
Braking is also provided by discs with 6-piston calipers at the front, 4 at the rear. The handbrake is hydraulic while ABS has been removed.
340 hp for the desert
Under the hood, Vali Motorsports took over the flat-6 3.6 from the Turbo version, pushed to 340 hp. The management has been completely personalized, the admission reviewed and above all, the 964 Safari is equipped with a new complete exhaust to make the mechanics sing. This is associated with a sequential five-speed gearbox also borrowed from the competition.
Let’s finish with the cabin, which contrary to what one might think, has received a lot of care from the Vali Motorsports team. Everything has been modified on the Porsche, from the dashboard to the center console to the hand-produced carbon fiber door panels. Black leather and suede demonstrate this quest for quality. The interior is also equipped with two carbon bucket seats and a Momo Prototipo steering wheel. The preparer did not communicate on the price of such a project or on a possible marketing.
