A Porsche Cayman type 981 transformed into a “safari” version is currently offered at auction in the United States. The sporty little coupé is ready to hit the slopes for less than €50,000.

A copy of the small German coupé recently transformed into an off-roader is currently for sale in Rancho Santa Fe, on the west coast of the United States. It is offered for auction online on the site PCarMarket.
A top-of-the-range preparation
This Cayman S, powered by an atmospheric mid-rear 3.4L flat-six originally sending 295 hp to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox, left the factory in 2006. until its transformation, it had known only one owner and was always registered in California. Its conversion to a “safari” was carried out by Vali Motorsports, local specialists in Porsche preparation. She understands suspension, underbody protection, 16-inch rims and all-terrain tiresadditional lights and air intakes, as well as specific bodywork panels.
The mechanics have not been forgotten. The intermediate shaft bearing, a known weak point of this engine, has been made more reliable. A new limited-slip differential was installed, along with a modified oil pan and a more vocal exhaust muffler, among other things. The electrical harness and the braking circuit have also been revised.
Less than €50,000 for this Cayman safari
With around 116,000 km on the odometer and an uneventful history, this immaculate white coupé is just waiting to be mucked up in the mud by its next owner, if he dares. The highest bid is currently $45,500 (about €42,000); an immediate purchase is possible for $53,000 (around €49,000).
